As one of the largest and the only egg quality assurance scheme in the UK with a flawless track record in salmonella control since official testing began 20 years ago – we aim to help producers market their eggs with total confidence. The Laid in Britain scheme is run by UKEP (United Kingdom Egg Producers Association Ltd) – which is the information and marketing body for Laid in Britain scheme members. UKEP assist and provide industry updates and information on a monthly basis. Eggs produced under the Laid in Britain scheme have a better record of freedom from Salmonella than any other assurance scheme, including Lion eggs. So join and sell your eggs with confidence!
Vaccinations & Competitive Exclusion
The scheme utilises vaccination against Salmonella, bio security measures and adherence to HACCP Rules which have been approved by the Food Standards Agency and DEFRA scheme members, at the packing station they use.
The Laid In Britain scheme is unique in that hens are given a water/feed supplement (like a series of probiotics) that promotes optimum gut health, by driving out unhealthy pathogens with good bacteria. This has proven to be effective not only against Salmonella, but coliforms and other pathogens.
